EDWARD DERBIN has taught economics and finance at a number of institutions, including University of California at Berkeley, University of Detroit Mercy, Davenport University, Delta College and Walsh College.  In conjunction with Dr. Donald Byrne, he shares the load as associate editor of an economics and finance oriented newsletter http://econnewsletter.com/ in bringing this increasingly relevant view of the American economic landscape to the public.

From 2007 through 2010, Professors Byrne and Derbin planned and coordinated the launch of 29 undergraduate and graduate online (distance learning) economics classes, with two undergraduate programs and two graduate programs, entirely online.  Going back to 2005, they laid the foundation for the online economics program which grew from an enrollment of around 150 in 2007-2008 (Fall 2007 through the Summer of 2008), to a total of  926 for 2009-2010 academic year, marking the end of their involvement.  The online classes they developed, authored and taught were very popular and responsible for re-igniting enormous interest in Economics at University of Detroit Mercy from near and far.

In his previous work-life, for more than nine years, Ed was a finance professional at Chrysler. While there, he wore various hats, to include serving as an internal auditor, senior budget analyst in manufacturing finance (plant budget), and in engineering where he worked as finance manager for the various vehicle platforms and the scientific laboratories.

While earning M.A. and M.B.A. degrees from the University of Detroit Mercy, Ed was honored with membership in Beta Gamma Sigma, National Business Honor Society (Top 5% of class) and Alpha Sigma Nu, National Jesuit Honor Society (Top 5% of class).

He and his family reside in the Detroit suburb of Canton and are parishioners at Saint Priscilla Catholic Church in Livonia, Michigan.
