Banner Culture

If Thomas Aquinas were alive today, he would be writing ad slogans. Too few people take the time to read or think – it just gets in the way. Aquinas is (was) just too long winded to make it in today’s marketplace. To cut through the information clutter and hit that target audience head on, one has to be painfully brief.
Consider all those web banners you see. A couple words. Maybe a picture. That’s it. It’s what I call “banner culture” and it is a trend that is moving us from a civilization that produced novelists to a civilization that produces “tweets.” No wonder the secular world is so resistant to hear the message about God or, even more so, the message about abortion: they don’t have the time or attention span.
Which leads me to bumper stickers.
I honestly used to cost $225 per hour, so don’t waste this.
In bygone days, the bumper sticker/billboard was the equivalent of the web banner advertisement. Also, in my bygone agency days, I used to bill out at $225 per hour for consulting (I used to be pretty smart).
Therefore, rather than writing on and on this month, I am going to give you some valuable free gifts – bumper stickers that you can print wherever and stick on your car (or someone else’s) that will help you avoid all the time you would normally waste making a cohesive, rational argument about faith or the dignity of human life.
Most folks don’t have the time to listen.
