To Hell, Christmas, or Paradise?

In Michigan, we have many geographical options available to us. From metropolitan Detroit, an hour drive to the south will take you to Toledo, Ohio. Or, if you have your heart set upon Northern Michigan, four hours will take you to the Mackinac Bridge. And, once you are there, crossing that five-mile bridge will transport you into Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

Despite the difficult economic times that Michiganians face, we remain mighty proud of our rugged geography- and are unafraid to tell others about it. Just last week, while in an Orlando taxi, the driver noted that I had a Canadian accent. Aaaa! I then proceeded to note that Detroit is the only place in the United States where Canada is seen from a southern glance. As you can see, we Great Lake types can't stop ourselves. We are born geographers.

And for those of us from Michigan (and elsewhere, too), we certainly know that our travels can lead us to different destinations. Hell and Paradise are eternal destinations, for sure. But, as you now know, Michiganians need physical signs and places to remind us of both.
Hell, Michigan is a town of about 300 people located in Michigan's Lower Peninsula. On my trips through there, you should know that The Practical Deacon is always happy to make it out.
On the other hand, as I drive toward extended family in the Upper Peninsula, it is always a joy to pass through the beautiful town of Christmas, Michigan. With a population of 400, there is always a spirit of joy and family in the air.  I especially enjoy the gasoline refills and cold sodas for my still long journey.
Which brings us to Paradise, Michigan. Situated in the Upper Peninsula, an hour or so north of the Mighty Mac bridge, it is home to the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum and the beautiful Tahquamenon Falls. Paradise is a great place to view one of God's great handiworks- the Great Lake of Superior- and also a wonderful place to enjoy and relax.

Which brings me to my final point. Wherever your travels take you this Independence Day holiday, be safe and keep Christmas in your heart, Paradise on your mind, and Hell from your thoughts.
